Most injured workers can cope with their problem and stay at work or return to work, unfortunately a minority cannot in spite of traditional medical management. This minority does not recover successfully, adopts a disabled self-concept, and experiences a needless extended absence and possible permanent departure from work. LA Pain and Wellness Institute's Functional Restoration Program goal is to evaluate and treat patients with acute and chronic pain who have experienced delayed recovery utilizing an inter-disciplinary approach to restore maximum function and return them to highest level of function and work.

At LA Pain, the Functional Restoration Program incorporates medical,  behavioral health, and adjunctive therapies such as physical therapy, chiropractic care, biofeedback, and acupuncture aimed at helping your clients to improve the quality of their life despite having pain, reduce reliance of medications and to return to maximum function or work.

The first phase is the Functional Restoration Evaluation to determine the candidacy of the injured worker in accordance with ACOEM criteria.The Evaluation process is an exercise in information gathering. The injured worker will undergo comprehensive assessment and evaluation. In general, the team assesses the physical, emotional, and functional abilities of the injured worker. If accepted to the program a treatment plan will be developed.  The program emphasizes goal-directed, time-limited, and conservative treatment, designed to increase a patient's functional capacity while deemphasizing reliance on passive medical care.  Re-assessment is continual & ongoing throughout the treatment process.  While the entry criteria for the program is usually pain and a degree of functional disability, the discharge criteria consists of an improved quality of life and functional return to work or ADLs
